more expensive models can literally cost thousands of dollars but with the three methods that we'll talk about today you can set up your own for a reasonable budget [Music] hi I'm Cathy rats peel basically a video feed that sits in front of your camera lens and slowly scrolls through a script for your presenter to read from as teleprompters sit right in front of your camera lens you're able to read from your script without breaking eye contact with your audience or needing to memorize pages and pages of content the upshot of this is that you look more natural on camera and you'll be able to produce more videos at volume so let's get into three methods of setting up a teleprompter and later on I'll also share our favorite teleprompter apps number one the DIY method the laptop and cushion the easiest cheapest and quickest way to make your own setup is to use your laptop on a cushion on a chair with this method all you need to do is prop your laptop up on a chair and some cushions so that it sits just a little bit below your camera lens you can then run a teleprompter app on it and use this as an autocue the laptop should be close enough to the lens that you can easily glance down at it but not too close as to be completely distracting of course the problem here is that the laptop won't be directly in front of your camera lens so you won't be able to keep eye contact which isn't ideal really this method is a worst-case scenario that should only be used if the script is short and sweet in any other situation you should probably invest in some form of autocue kit or just memorize the script number two mobile phone app the second method is to use a teleprompter app on your mobile phone this way you can record your video from your phone camera while reading your script from your screen so your eyes never have to leave the camera a lot of youtubers use this option and it definitely can work well if you have a high quality front-facing camera I'd recommend downloading the scripted video teleprompter app as it positions the text right next to the lens but there are also plenty of other options like cell V prompter pick zero teleprompter of course this method is only suitable if you want to shoot on your mobile phone if you want to shoot on a higher-quality camera than this next method is definitely the way to go number three tablet an autocue the third method is to use a tablet and position a sheet of transparent reflective glass in front of your camera lens to mirror the script the glass won't show up on your camera but the script reflection will be visible directly over the lens so you can maintain eye contact this is the best way to set up an autocue and it's how all commercial auto key models work if you want to build this yourself you still need to get your hands on broadcast quality prompter glass and make sure to position it correctly it's probably better to just buy one instead unfortunately there aren't that many decent low-cost options here based on our experience the cheaper models do tend to be pretty poor quality and require a lot of work to set up so to help you get the most bang for your buck we've picked out three models that we believe represent excellent value for money we know that not everyone has the same budget so we've made sure to select a low-cost mid-range and high-end option if you're on a tight budget well we'd definitely recommend the parrot v2 it's extremely affordable lightweight and attaches directly to the camera itself it's the perfect choice for vloggers and youtubers the only downside is that it's quite small and can really only fit a smartphone for the script which we find can result in a much slower reading because less text is on the screen at any one time you can get your hands on it on Amazon for around 139 dollars but you might be able to find it cheaper if you shop around so have a look the tele max pro IPE x is much larger and can fit tablets up to ten inches in size it's very easy to assemble and can fit onto most tripods securely of course you'll pay a little more for the added size it can be found for around three hundred and ninety nine dollars making it a solid mid-range option if you've got a much larger budget and want a long-term investment go for that I can Elite Pro it's a professional-grade teleprompter that supports up to 12 inch tablets and is quite sturdy on most tripods it also has nifty is like a magnetic hood and a quick-release camera platform it costs around six hundred ninety nine dollars once you've got your autocue set up all that's left to do is to install a teleprompter app to deliver your script so let's dig into your options the best apps to use there are three teleprompter apps that we'd recommend checking out number one the parrot teleprompter is the most popular free app on the market and arguably the best overall it's available on both Apple and Android and there's loads of great features allowing you to control things like the text size speed color and more you can also flip the script in case you plan on mirroring it in a traditional teleprompter setup number 2 prompt smart prompt smart is another great option it has a nifty voice-activated feature and voice tracking technology that can adjust the scroll speed in real time to help you keep pace the free version is okay but if you want to record video from the same device you'll need to upgrade to the paid version the third option to check out is Selvi again it allows you to control the text size and scroll speed as well as the size of the teleprompter window and you can use the camera on your mobile to record whilst running the app well that just about covers everything all that's left to do now is to set up your auto key and start making great
